OVERVIEW Music Kitchen operates year-round and accommodates enrollment at any time. The calendar year is divided into two terms (January through June, and July through December), with a two-week break between each term. Weekly private lessons are offered in 45-minute or 60-minute sessions.
TUITION AND PAYMENT Tuition covers 40 teaching weeks per calendar year and is divided into 12 equal monthly installments. Each installment is due on or before the first day of the month and applies to that month’s upcoming lessons. Invoices are emailed one week prior to the due date.
Payment can be made with cash, check or Zelle.
Late payments will incur a fee of $1 for each day.
There is no tuition adjustment for missed lessons.Tuition reflects not only the weekly lesson time with the student but also the professional services required to support high-quality instruction. These include lesson preparation, researching, selecting and purchasing curriculum and materials, piano and studio maintenance, memberships in professional organizations, continuing education, use of lending library resources, and administrative operations.
MISSED LESSONS The rescheduling of lessons is subject to teacher availability and is not guaranteed.Tuition reserves a specific, consistent weekly lesson time for each student. The teacher is unable to routinely create additional teaching hours for make-up lessons. Excessive cancellations may result in the loss of the student’s weekly time slot. In cases of emergency, such as severe illness, the teacher will make every reasonable effort to reschedule the lesson. For any planned absences, a minimum of two weeks’ notice is requested. If the teacher must cancel a lesson, it will be rescheduled.
MATERIALS Music books and materials are purchased by the teacher. The cost for purchased materials will be included on the invoice for the next tuition payment.
AT THE STUDIO Students are expected to arrive on time and bring all required music books and materials. The porch bench is available as a waiting area before lessons. If a student arrives late, only the remaining portion of the scheduled lesson time will be provided to ensure subsequent lessons stay on schedule.
PRACTICE AND INSTRUMENT Students are expected to practice a minimum of five days each week on a well-maintained acoustic (preferred) or digital piano with 88 weighted and touch-sensitive keys. Acoustic pianos should be tuned yearly at a minimum. The teacher can provide recommendations for qualified professional tuners.
MUSIC KITCHEN YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND WEBSITE Students are encouraged all year long to prepare pieces for videos as a means of showcasing their accomplishments. Signed consent is required for the ongoing posting of videos and photos to the Music Kitchen YouTube Channel and website.
